TAILOR-MADE WEDDING SUIT: OUR 5 TIPS FOR THE GROOM’S BEST MAN!

Do you have to wear a tailor-made suit to a wedding because your best friend has FINALLY decided to propose to his girlfriend?

Did he even ask you to be his best man? Congratulations! Being a witness is a great privilege, but it also comes with its share of responsibilities. After all, all marriages have social codes that must be respected. As a witness, you are the guarantor of these rules. #LaLoiCestMoi And it starts with choosing your tailor-made best man suit. It’s a crucial choice.

So if you were wondering “How do I dress as a wedding best man ?”, worry no more. In this article, discover our 5 tips for choosing your best man’s outfit. The groom has already read our article on tailor-made wedding suits.

Codes. That’s what we need to talk about together. Wedding codes have changed.

Marriage itself has changed: this age-old institution has undergone a few legislative twists over the last 20 years, between PACS and marriage for all.

As a result, marriage is no longer quite the same, no longer as codified as it used to be, and everyone can now invent the wedding of their choice, and live the wedding of their dreams.

And if you ask us, it’s a pretty good thing from a creative point of view! Your friend the groom can opt for a Tuxedo wedding, or for shorts: it’s his choice.

Over the past 6-7 years, we’ve really seen the bride and groom’s suits and the best man’s suits evolve.

We’re going much further in terms of daring the colors of the suits worn by your friends the bride and groom: blue and gray are still there, but green, Burgundy, brown, yellow, pastel pink, all are now part of the field of possibilities for a wedding.

Lately, we’ve been making more and more tailor-made sneakers with tongue requests that take up the fabric of the suit.

Whether for the groom or for your best man’s suit, we often opt for a two-piece suit, and the Waistcoat is often preferred to the three-piece suit.

Why? Because the groom knows that in the middle of summer, under 28 or 34 degrees, he’ll soon be forced to take off his jacket. So we work on the elegance of the pieces that remain, namely the Waistcoat or the shirt.

If we had to conclude this intro with one piece of advice, it’s that your friend’s wedding should be just like him. That you must recognize him as a witness. And that in a few years’ time, when you look back at the wedding photo album, you’ll say to yourself, “This wedding was really us, it looks just like us!”

That said, now that you know we’re open to new, different and creative ideas for the groom’s and best man’s tailor-made suits, we understand that the groom may be attached to a certain tradition.

Here are 5 tips for your tailor-made wedding best man suit!

1/ SAY NO TO READY-TO-WEAR SUITS, AND SAY YES TO TAILOR-MADE WEDDING SUITS

It’s often said that ready-to-wear is made to fit everyone, and in the end, it doesn’t “fit” anyone perfectly.

First of all, understand that buying a ready-to-wear wedding suit is a very bad idea.

In fact, these suits are very rarely adapted to your morphology and measurements.

If you’re taller, shorter, thinner, more muscular or stronger than average, your suit may not fit properly. And it would be a shame to break your Trousers while lacing up your shoes!

Certain details, such as sleeve length or shoulder width, can completely ruin the elegance of your suit.

Worse, with this kind of suit, you won’t be totally comfortable in your wedding best man outfit.

And given how long the various stages of a wedding last (ceremony at the town hall, photos with the photographer, lunch, cocktail party, dinner, ball…), you’re likely to suffer !

Make a smarter choice to be comfortable and elegant at the same time: invest in a tailor-made wedding suit.

You’ll have a suit that’s perfectly tailored to your body type and that shows you off to your best advantage .

Best of all, you’ll be comfortable in your wedding Outfit. So no, you don’t have to suffer to be beautiful.

2/ YOUR TAILOR-MADE WEDDING SUIT SHOULD HIGHLIGHT THE GROOM, NOT OVERSHADOW HIM.

You are the groom’s best man. Your role is not to steal the show, but to push him to the fore. It’s her wedding, not yours.

That’s why, when choosing a best man’s suit for your wedding, you have to be careful not to look more chic or totally identical to the groom.

Imagine being mistaken for the groom in wedding photos. It would be rather embarrassing for you and irritating for him…

So before choosing your wedding best man outfit, consult the groom about his tailor-made wedding suit.

You can even advise him on his choice to match the bride’s dress (you’ll need to discuss this beforehand with the future 1st lady, who will have requirements and an opinion on the subject too!).

Once you’ve done that, it’s up to you to adapt!

Differentiate yourself with color

First of all, make sure you don ‘t wear completely the same colors as the groom .

Concentrate first on the color of jackets and Trousers.

For example, if the groom is wearing a blue tailor-made wedding suit, wear a brown or Grey jacket and trousers.

Then if you really want to wear the same color as the groom, play with different shades. He in dark blue, the witnesses in light blue suits.

Finally, you can also play on the color of the accessory: the tie or bow tie.

For example, if the groom opts for a sky blue tie, wear a Navy blue tie.

(Yes, in the wedding photo, you must still be able to play the game of 7 differences between the groom’s suit and the best man’s suit 10 years from now!)

Stand out from the crowd with your bow tie/tie choice

There is, however, one exception to this color rule. In fact, the groom may want a dress code for his witnesses, to ensure color consistency.

If this is your case and the groom wants the witnesses to wear the same colors as him, then differentiate on the tie/bow tie choice.

Let the groom choose a bow tie or tie, and you and the other witnesses choose the other option.

So even if you have the same suit and tie/bow colors, the groom will still be easily recognizable next to the witnesses.

Final tip: never wear a 3-piece suit if the groom chooses a 2-piece suit.

Because, once again, you don’t have to be more chic or stuffy than the groom. He sets the pace, the witnesses follow!

3/ STAND OUT WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES… BUT NOT TOO MANY!

Weddings are usually rather formal affairs.

And unless you’re attending a wedding of Congolese sapeurs or bohemian advertisers who say “Come as you are”, bright colors are often prohibited.

So all men will have roughly the same suit colors (blue, Grey, even brown for the more daring), especially if a dress code is imposed.

But as best man, you may want to stand out from the crowd.

You discovered in tip #2 how to differentiate yourself from the groom, thanks to your tailor-made wedding suit, but you can also play on the accessories!

Socks, clutches, suspenders, cufflinks … All these accessories help you stand out from the crowd, so make the most of them. A bit like My Best Friend’s Wedding

Choose socks with original patterns or colors (while still matching your suit and tie), wear suspenders instead of a belt, adopt original cufflinks… In short, make a difference.

But be careful! Don’t forget that you need to remain formal and elegant.

Don’t turn into a tinsel or a teenager in the throes of an identity crisis. Less is more!

4/ MATCH YOUR TAILOR-MADE WEDDING SUIT TO THAT OF THE OTHER WITNESSES

At the groom’s request or on your own initiative, you can impose a dress code for all wedding witnesses.

This is often a very good idea, to ensure harmony in the photos and during the ceremony.

What’s more, it’s a lot of fun !

The most important thing is to match your tailor-made wedding suit to the other witnesses.

So first, make sure everyone wears the same color suit.

And finally, make sure you all have the same color shoes, tie and bow tie.

Nor do all the witnesses have to be clones of each other.

But you must at least be consistent with each other.

In the photo above, we liked the fact that only the Tailor-made Trousers differentiated the groom from the witnesses – it was a great idea!

PS: if you decide to come to the store with 7 or 8 people, don’t wait until the last minute. We have solutions for you, but we’re not magicians: a tailor-made suit can’t be put together in 3 hours.

5/ CONSIDER THE THEME FOR YOUR TAILOR-MADE WEDDING SUIT

The fifth and final tip for choosing your tailor-made wedding suit as best man is to adapt to the wedding theme.

And this theme will influence everything else they do : the decor, the menu, the dress code, the activities, the venue…

In your case, if the bride and groom have chosen a specific theme, adapt your tailor-made wedding suit to it.

If, for example, the theme of your wedding is love chic, don’t come dressed in country-style Outfits.

In short, you get the idea.

We hope for your sake that the theme of the wedding will not be Johnny Hallyday, because the tailor-made suit in leather… how can I put this?
